About West Yas Academy
West Yas Academy is located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The school is a part of Aldar Academies, one of the UAE's largest and leading providers of private education with schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Following the latest inspections from the Abu Dhabi Education Council, Aldar Academies schools were rated "very good to outstanding".
West Yas Academy teaches the American Massachusetts State Curriculum, which is the most highly regarded and successful school curriculum in the United States. The Massachusetts Curriculum draws on a rich history of academic excellence and rigor, and has historically benefited from close proximity to and interaction with higher education institutions such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The curriculum is supported by a robust emphasis on co-curricular and extra-curricular pursuits, which help foster well-rounded students.
West Yas Academy offers AP (advanced placement) classes during the high school years, which are courses taught using university-level syllabi that can later be accredited to a degree programme in US and Canadian universities. The curriculum also provides students with guidance and preparation for taking the SAT (the standardized examination required by US university admissions). Where appropriate, students can take our enhanced Arabic and Islamic Studies syllabi, preparing them for the unified Ministry of Education examinations.
Facilities at the school are state-of-the-art, and we have designed the entire academy to meet the needs of 21st century learners. These facilities include extensive music, drama and art facilities, specialist teaching rooms such as a research laboratory, graphic design area and recital room. Sports facilities include a multi-purpose sports hall, dance studio, 25m swimming pool, and a full-sized football pitch and basketball courts.
Alongside access to the very best facilities and technology, West Yas Academy pupils benefit from the combined knowledge of over 1,000 Aldar Academies teachers. We are unique in the way we enable our teachers to share best practice across the network, and provide platforms from which they can actively expand their teaching skills by studying for accredited course such as the IB, BSME and successfully complete action research projects at a Master’s Degree level. Aldar Academies teachers collectively completed 10,000 hours of training last year.
Additionally, we are always looking at ways to broaden our pupil’s own minds. This includes inviting inspiring guest speakers into schools to share their life experiences, such as former NASA astronaut Robert Curbeam, and inspiration professional athletes such as Manchester City football coaches, former world tennis champion Monice Seles and female boxer turned health and fitness trainer Mohammed Ali’s daughter Laila Ali. Academies also hosts Emirate-wide student sports tournaments to build our pupil’s confidence and physical health.
