Extra-curricular activities are a fundamental part of the curriculum offered across Academies because we recognise the importance of life outside the world of scholarship, providing a refreshing counterbalance to academic studies. Our planned activities enhance the formal curriculum developing students’ skills in a range of aptitudes and within diverse opportunities.

Importantly, in the range of activities offered in our schools we value the approach characterised by the International Baccalaureate Programme in which extra-curricular provision is aligned to three areas of creativity, action and service (CAS). Students are encouraged to participate in a breadth of experiences, promoting an understanding of their own potential, skills and future career paths or interests.

Creativity is a key element of many of the extra-curricular opportunities offered to Academies students.  Interpreted broadly, these include a wide range of arts activities as well as the creativity students demonstrate in designing and implementing service projects. As well as the activities offered by school staff, Aldar Academies enjoys a strong partnership with  ADEK approved third parties who offer school-based music, modern dance, ballet and creative clubs after school.

Action identifies the range of activities which include physical activity and team participation. These can include not only participation in individual and team sports but also taking part in expeditions and in local or international projects.

Service is a fundamental part of the Academies programmes and this encompasses a host of community and social service activities. Some examples include helping people of determination, visiting hospitals and working with refugees or homeless people.

All of our teachers commit to the programme as part of their contractual duties and, consequently, there is a diverse and engaging programme, sufficient to attract the attention and interest of all students.

Our Extra-Curricular Activities are centered on the following learning outcomes:

  • Increasing awareness of strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaking new challenges
  • Planning, initiating and leading activities

Music School

Music education can play a vital role in your child’s development, as it helps to improve self-confidence, concentration, and memory, while also enhancing communication, language and reasoning skills. Studies have also shown how the enjoyment of learning an instrument can even increase your child’s IQ, and help them achieve higher grades in core subjects including English and mathematics.
In addition to classes held throughout the school day, we have partnered with the International Music Institute (IMI) to strengthen the quality and variety of our music education and all our lessons are taught by professionally trained instructors. These extra curricular  lessons are based upon the musical skill levels of the students, ranging anywhere from beginner to advanced. We offer a wide range of classes which are:

  • Vocal
  • Guitar; Acoustic, Classical, Electric, Bass
  • Piano
  • Strings; Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
  • Woodwind; Recorder, Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Cor Anglais, Saxophone, Bassoon
  • Brass; Trumpet, Cornet, Flugel Horn, Tenor Horn, French Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone, Tuba
  • Percussion; Drum kit, Orchestral; Percussion; Glockenspiel, Timpani, Xylophone, Marimba

We also teach Music Theory and provide lessons towards the completion of the prestigious ABRSM and Trinity College London Rock School examinations.

In learning to play, either using their own voice or with an instrument, allows a child to increase their confidence as they present themselves in front of an audience, and participate in events such as Aldar Academies Festival of Performing Arts held at Emirates Palace.
