Why is parental engagement important to us?
Engagement with parents is key to the effective development of each child’s academic progress and achievement.  This is true regardless of the age of the child.  All Aldar Academies’ schools use a range of approaches to communicate effectively with parents. Parents are encouraged to contribute to and participate in school life and support the achievement of all of our children.   All Academies encourage the involvement of parents in aspects of the life of the school which are pertinent to the academic success and achievement of students.
 
What are the approaches used by the Academies?
We ensure regular communication with parents, using various methods and media, such as newsletters, telephone calls, SMS, e-mails and letters. These are used to share information regarding events, student achievements, staffing and forthcoming activities. Our on-line portal is a highly effective tool, often used by parents, to read reports, curriculum information and newsletters.

When it comes to students’ achievement and academic progress, parents are welcome to visit school at any time to make an appointment with the relevant teachers.  In the early years and primary classes, home-school diaries are used to record key information about reading or homework. School planners are used in the secondary phase and these will include timetable, targets and assessment results. All Academies offer regular parent-teacher consultation sessions (PTC’s) and information meetings regarding the curriculum, students’ learning, subject choices and extra-curricular activities (ECA’s).  As partners in learning, Aldar Academies will work closely with parents and use, wherever appropriate, information meetings and communications relating to health, well-being, career pathways and special educational needs to facilitative effective engagement and involvement in the wide curriculum offered by our schools.
 
Aldar Academies will provide opportunities available for parents to visit the school and meet with the Principal, senior leaders and teachers who are involved in their children’s education.  As well as PTCs, there will be wider opportunities for parents to contribute to school governance through the strategic governance group and parent/teacher/friends organisations within each Academy.
 
Parents are informed of relevant school policies, as required by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge.  The policies are approved by ADEK prior to publication Parents may access the policies by following the link here.
 
What is the role of parents in this process?
We work closely with parents and encourage their active involvement in some specific areas, including: 

  • Attending periodic parents meetings and evenings, the timing of which will be communicated in advance by senior Aldar Academies’ staff.
  • Supporting extra-curricular activities organised by the school such as cultural, social, sporting or art events. 
  • Participation in school and community events such as Aldar Academies UAE’s ‘National Day’ celebrations, ‘Aldar Has Talent’, art exhibitions, graduation ceremonies and other similar events. 
  • Participating in other school activities such as PTA/Friends councils. 
  • Participating in each Academy Strategic Governance Groups, as elected parent representatives or community/business link. 
  • Playing an active role in their children’s education including ensuring their children’s punctual attendance, their completion of homework assignments, and attending parents meeting and open evening/PTC.
